Blade Runner as most know was inspired by this book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. The story is about the value of life. Even though the antagonist’s in the story are the literal embodiment of technology and artificial intelligence, the perspective isn’t entirely negative. The replicants for the most part didn’t appreciate life because they didn’t understand it. Replicants that possessed memories had a better appreciation for life and displayed more human qualities. The replicants that began to fear death suppose to simply avoiding it learned sympathy. The story encourages us to reflect upon how we define life. In the end of the movie the replicant learns sympathy. In the end of the book the detective values android life. Replicants and Humans in both stories find an equal plain. I love how Sci-fi makes me try to define aspects of the world I often take for granted. Sci-fi presents a hyper real version of real world so that we can more easily reflect upon it.
